Preaching the Hard Truths of the Gospel Part 2

  • The Episcopal Diocese of Texas 1225 Texas Street Houston, TX, 77002 United States (map)

Workshop is FREE to clergy and lay in the Diocese of Texas.

This year has laid a complex jumble of issues at our feet –

  • Coronavirus: disproportionate effect on people of color, economic instability, protocols to minimize risk of transmission

  • Spotlight on racism: murders of Ahmad Aubrey, George Floyd, false 911 call by Amy Cooper

  • Immigration: separation of families, detention of migrant children

Many of us are filled with equally jumbled emotions - grief, outrage, sorrow, confusion, worry, bewilderment, justifiable anger, and frustration. We are fatigued from managing online services and regathering plans as well as the other duties associated with our ministries. We are also filled with the Spirit of Pentecost and our confidence in the three-fold Person of the Trinity.  And our role is to bring scripture to life in a way that invites transformation.

But what do we actually say?

  • How do we hear the voice of the Spirit when our own hearts are split, scared, sorrowful, and spent?

  • How does the Gospel inform our discipleship?

  • Which aspect of God's very Good News is most needed to be heard by your listeners right now?

By the end of this free two-day interactive workshop you will have preaching tools that will allow you to reach the fears of your listeners and invite them to transformation

  • DAY 1 – Discussion about the role of preacher and doing our own work as we would ask our listeners to do

  • DAY 2 – Develop practical preaching tools and strategies
